In a spiritually elevating and liturgically solemn ceremony, Most Rev Dr Bernard Moras, Archbishop of Bangalore, ordained 24 students of Kristu Jyoti College, Bangalore, as deacons, on March 19, 2010. More than 100 priests concelebrated in the Holy Eucharist that lasted nearly 3 hours. Among the dignitaries were Rev Fr Stanislaus Swamikannu (Salesian Provincial, Chennai), Rev Fr Amalraj Susai (Salesian Provincial, Tiruchy), Rev Fr Balaraju Raminedi (Salesian Provincial, Hyderabad), Rev Fr Thomas Koonan (Salesian Vice-Provincial, Bangalore), Fr Philominathan Sagayaraj (Provincial Economer, Chennai), Fr Antony Joseph (Salesian Provincial Economer, Tiruchy), Fr Thomas Pallithazhathu (Provincial Vicar, Piarist Fathers), Fr Joby George (Delegate Superior, Missionaries of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary) and Fr Shaji Nicholas (Guardian, St Anthony’s Friary, Bangalore). 19 of the newly ordained are Salesians from the Provinces of Tiruchy (6), Bangalore (3), Dimapur (2), Chennai (2), New Delhi (2), Hyderabad (2), and Guwahati (2). The other 5 belong to Order of Friars Minor – OFM (2), Piarists (1) and Missionaries of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary – MSCCC (2). Family members of the candidates, and religious from the neighbourhood witnessed with much attention the rite of ordination meticulously organized by the Salesian community of Kristu Jyoti College.
