History 
BOSCO, a project for the Children on the street, homeless child labourers and the young at risk, was an initiative of a few daring students of the theology from Kristu Jyoti College, Bangalore. by 185, it became an activity of the Salesian Province of Bangalore . Over the year it has developed, into a full-fledged, charitable, non-profit organization, registered with the Bangalore City Corporation. BOSCO has its own Governing Body and an Advisory Committee and has now branched out into five city centres.

BOSCO Yuvodaya – Gandhinagar (1989)

 
Activities:
Five Centres  BOSCO Yuvodaya 
  •   Opened on 23rd January 1990, serves as day and night open shelter for children brought from all over the city. information about these children is gathered and preserved here. He/She is given preliminary counselling, and the family is contacted. those whose families cannot be contacted, or who are unwilling to return home, are referred to the other three city centres.

BOSCO Mane – Chamrajpet (1986)

Activities:
BOSCO Mane
  •   Inaugurated on 8th December 1986, is a halfway home for boys below 14 years of age, who are willing to come off the streets. Depending on their aptitudes and interests, they are sent either for formal education or for training in some trade at the centre itself. It is also convalescence centre for the sick boys.

BOSCO Nilaya – K.R. Market (2001)

  •   The fifth and most recent centre, inaugurated on 24th March 2001 in the City Market, is a day-night open shelter for children who wok on the streets, and need a place to sleep and to relax. it provides a safe environment for street children for healthy interaction and recreation.

BOSCO Nivas – Shivajinagar (2003)

Activities:
BOSCO Nivas
  •   Opened on 28th February 2003, as a 24 hour open shelter is mainly for the vegetable vendors, rag pickers, beggars, coolies, working in fruit shops, butcher shops hotel, garages etc.
  •   The two Child Rescue Booths (also called Don Bosco Makkala Ashraya)
  •   Set up at the railway station and the bus stand on 21st April 1998 and 29th June 1999 respectively, they serve mainly as contact points for children who arrive in the City from elsewhere. Initial help and counselling is provided to them on the spot to prevent them from falling a prey to the dangers on the street.
