History
Don Bosco Vaduthala, the cradle of Salesian work in Kerala, began in 1956 as a Youth Centre. From the start, the Youth Centre has had a tremendous influence on the lives of the people of the neighbourhood, the result of which is seen even today. Later in 1966, a non-formal technical school began, which in 1971 received Government approval as a formal I.T.I. centre. In the premises there is also a shrine dedicated to Our Lady of Thattazham, which was built in 1850 and rebuilt in honour of Don Bosco. It serves as a mass station of the parish and attracts many devotees of Our Lady and Don Bosco. In 1985 an English medium High School was added, which in March 2000 acquired permanent recognition from the ICSE Board, Delhi. The Malayalam medium Lower Primary School started in 1924 for very poor children continues even today. After the aspirants were shifted to Mysore, the vacant rooms in the community building were converted into guestrooms for courses of animation for the use of the Integrated Youth Development Centre (IYDC), which is also housed here. Since 1999 the Don Bosco Communication Centre is also located here.
