History
|
Mt Don Bosco, the Salesian Novitiate of the province of Bangalore, was started in May 1997 at Padivayal in Waynad District of Kerala on a 29-acre plot ideally surrounded by forests, tea and coffee estates, pepper and plantation crops in a village setting with a moderate climate. The people around are mostly farmers, descendants of immigrants from the other districts of Kerala belonging to the Hindu, Muslim and Christian religions. In the year 1997, when Kotagiri was handed over to the Chennai Province as decided by the major superiors, the Novitiate was shifted to Padivayal under the direction of Fr. Jacob Malayatty, the newly appointed Rector and Novice Master. On 26 January 1998 Bishop Maxwell Noronha of Calicut blessed and Fr. Matthew Maruvathrail, the Provincial, inaugurated the new Novitiate building.

Scope
|
§ Giving the novices a better understanding of their divine vocation and of their vocation to the Salesian Institute Making them experience the manner of life of the institute, forming heir minds and hearts in the spirit and charism of Don Bosco, as enlightened by the person of Christ and His Gospel
§ Enabling them to get to know the Society and for the society to evaluate their suitability for the Salesian way of Life.
§ Promoting human maturity, intellectual preparation, deepening of the consecrated life and of the Salesian religious life by a study of the Constitutions, initiation into apostolic work, and into the Salesian Educational method.
§ Bringing about a harmonious unity of contemplation and apostolic action.
