History

The parish church is situated in Basavanapura-Seegehally, on the outskirts of Bangalore city. it consists of the whole of the Hoskote Taluk with over 100 villages and a small portion of the Bangalore South Taluk. Most of the people are from the backward communities and are daily-wage-earners. The Catholic population is spread out in 16 villages. Hailing from the neighbouring State of Andhra Pradesh, they belonged originally to St. Antony’s parish, Thambuchettipalaya, near Kristu Jyoti College. The centre has about 150 families residing mostly in the twin villages of Basavanapura and Seegehally. The others are scattered in Swathanthranagar, R.M.S Colony, Chikkabasavanapura and Priyankanagar .
The first chrch in this centre was built in 1969. It was rebuilt in 1973. On July 10, 1988, in the centenary year of Don Bosco’s death, this centre was given the status of an independent mission and permanently handed over to the Salesians. The new parish church was built and inaugurated during the feast of Our Lady Lordes in 1999. In February 2001, Don Bosco Computer Centre, Library and Youth Centre were inaugurated.
BANDAPURA
The substation of Bandapura is about 6 km from the main centre along the Old Madras Road. This centre has about 70 faimiles and most of them are settlers from other areas of the State and outside. Here the people do not have a common place of their own to assemble and so they gather at the Salesian Sisters’ convent chapel for the liturgical and other programmes
HOSAKOTE
This centre is about 12 km from the parish chrch. From the two families in the 70′s the centre has grown to 50 families now. The people used to gather in one of the families for the liturgical services. it was shifted to the Provincial House of the Fatima Sisters in September.
