History
|
The parish of St Joseph the Worker at Paper Town, established in 1971, was handed over to the Salesians in perpetuity in 1994. In the following year the foundation stone of the Don Bosco Institute of Technical Training was laid on a 6-acre plot in Ujjanipura leased by the Mysore Paper Mills and the Diocese of Shimoga for a period of 33 years. The parish has 198 families or about 820 Catholics. They are mainly of Tamil origin and are very poor. The early dropouts from schools stand at an alarming percentage of about 60%. All the Catholics however are enrolled in school. There are 3 Catholic schools and 4 parishes in the area.

The Salesian House intends
· To educate the people to faith and morals and to animate the parish community
· To plan and promote the educational, economic, social and cultural development of the people
· To work for the promotion of more educational facilities and competent personnel
· To provide counselling and guidance especially to the youth
· To promote technical and vocational education to facilitate employment opportunities
