Vaduthala BasketballThe Seventh All Kerala Don Bosco Inter School Basketball Tournament was conducted at Don Bosco, Vaduthala from October 6th to 8th. Vaduthala was once known for basketball and since a decade this sport had lost its importance. By conducting this tournament we could rejuvenate and rekindle the spirit of the game. There were competitions in three sectors.

  • Public School Boys (CBSE/ICSE)
  • Open Tournament (Open for schools of all syllabus)
  • Girls’ Tournament

On October 6th Rev. Fr. Devassy Chirackel (Rector) inaugurated the match and many district basketball officials were present.

In the Public School as well as the Open Tournament sectors Don Bosco Senior Secondary School became the winners. In the tournament for girls, SBOA (Chittoor) became the champions.

The hosts, Don Bosco Vaduthala hacked the 7th All Kerala Inter School Don Bosco Trophy. This is for the sixth time that the school wins this coveted tournament. In the finals of 8th October, Don Bosco defeated SC Seminary (Thiruvalla) 75-52. Master Nithin George was the Top Scorer and Master Dixon M J, the Best Player, both of Don Bosco. In the Public School Section Finals Don Bosco hacked the prize, defeating Bhavans Vidyamandir (Elamakkara) 54-57. Master Hillary Aldrin Rozario of Don Bosco was the best player. In the girls’ section SBOA (Chittoor) defeated Don Bosco Senior Secondary School (Vaduthala). A Navaz (Customs Assistant Commissioner), P J Sunny (Selection Committee Chairman, Indian Team) and Rev. Fr. Devasssy Chirackel (Rector and Principal) gave away the prizes.


Patriotic Song Competition

Patriotic Songs at VaduthalaThe Second Don Bosco Inter School Desa Bhakthi Gaana Malsaram ’09 was organized at Don Bosco Vaduthala on the 7th October 2009, by the members of the Youths group of the Youth Centre, for the High School Students of the district of Ernakulam. Many schools participated in this prestigious competition conducted as part of the Gandhi Jayanthi Celebrations. The aim of conducting such an event was to cultivate a spirit of patriotism among children and disseminate the message of Gandhiji. Rev. Fr. Francis George, the director of the Lourdes hospital, who is a known musician too, inaugurated the competition at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Fr. Joffie Puthuva (the director of the Youth Centre), Mr. Sudheerlal P S (the president of the Youths group), and Mr. Libeesh K Seemon (the convener of the programme) were present on the occasion. St. Antony’s HS, Kacheripady was the winner and the Govt. Model School, Ernakulam and St. Augustine’s HS, Kaloor hacked the second and the third prizes respectively. During the valedictory function, Rev. Fr .Joffie Puthuva gave away the trophies.
