It’s Christmas at DBYC, Aluva. Clashing of cymbals and blasting of trumpets together with bells signaled the arrival of Christmas for the youth centre members and the people of Keezhmad. The Youth Centre organized a Grand Carol Singing Competition on December 13 to mark the beginning of its Christmas celebrations and to announce the message of love that came down at Christmas. 15 teams participated in the much appreciated contest. Colleges, seminaries, schools and parishes spared no efforts in making it a closely fought competition. Don Bosco College (Aluva), Carmel Nursing School and St Joseph’s Pontifical Seminary, Carmelgiri (Aluva) emerged victorious, winning the first, the second and the third prizes respectively. Mr. Samji (Music director, Samji Music Studios, Ernakulam), Mr. Jackson (13AD, an expert at orchestration) and Mr. George Joseph (a music teacher) were the honourable judges. Sr. Emma Delmaso (Superior General, Dorothean Sisters) inaugurated the function. Fr. George Koilparambil (Well-known Retreat Preacher and Research Guide in sociology, MG University, Kottayam) delivered the Christmas message. The music extravaganza reached its climax with the devotional orchestra presented by Catholic Congregation for the Blind (CCB), Vazhakkulam (an emerging music troop made up of blind artists). Don Bosco auditorium and its premises were packed with people as heavenly music flowed out to the neighbourhood inviting all people of good will to participate in the joy of Christmas. The Youth Centre members await new life in the New Year as they will join together again on December 31.
