On Friday, December 18, 2009 Don Bosco, Deodurga solemnly commemorated the Foundation of our Congregation. In the morning the community had a sharing session. It started with the reading about the Great Dream of Don Bosco, of becoming a priest and how this lead to the foundation of a society that cares for thousands of young people all over the world. It was also an occasion to think about the origin of our own vocation in the Salesian Congregation and share it with the community.

In the evening we had a solemn concelebrated Mass attended by the small catholic community of Deodurga, the staff and the children of the boarding and the Assisi Sisters of Mary Immaculate. After the homily which high-lighted the marvels the Lord has worked through Don Bosco at the beginning of the Salesian Congregation, we the five Salesians of Deodurga Community renewed our profession. The celebration ended with a sumptuous meal and a Good Night Talk for the occasion.

A Noble Gesture from a Humble Folk

It was a very encouraging and surprising moment for us when a group of twenty five ladies from our two SHG groups from Chandanakere village volunteered to harvest our paddy for a day. The relatives of some of these people at the time of the heavy rain and flood were given shelter in our building. It looks like these people wanted to thank us not with mere words but with their life of service. I am reminded of the poor widow who offered all what she had. May the Holy Child Jesus of Bethlehem bless these generous and innocent villagers.
