The Salesian community at Don Bosco, Mysore geared up in all enthusiasm, vigour, gratitude and jubilation on December 18 to meaningfully celebrate the all-important event which marked the birth of the Salesian Congregation 150 years ago, by God’s initiative and in fulfillment of the dream of Don Bosco for the salvation of the young. The confreres of the community, consisting of four priests and two clerics, solemnly made the renewal of vows and recommitted ourselves in fidelity to the charism of Don Bosco during the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, witnessed by 16 pre-novices. Fr. Xavier, the Rector, in his homily stressed the humble beginnings of the Congregation and its aim of the sanctification of every Salesian by working for the young. After the renewal, all the confreres as a sign of allegiance to the Salesian Vocation prayerfully signed on the last page of their copy of the Constitutions.
Prior to the celebration, the community spiritually prepared itself through a novena to Mary Immaculate Help of Christians, a day of recollection and prayer, and spiritual readings. As a tangible expression of living the charism of Don Bosco, the community reached out in charity to a needy youngster by financially supporting his graduation studies.
