The Salesians arrived in Mampetta on 26th May 1990 at the invitation of Rt. Rev. Sebastian Mankuzhikkari, D.D, the bishop of Thamarassery. Considering the need of the young people of the area, which is one of the poorest in the district Koazihikodu, the Salesians decided to start a Technical Institute to impart Technical education to the poor and neglected youth of this area and the various parishes of the diocese. Don Bosco Institute of Technology, Mampetta was inaugurated in 1998. The Institute runs three trades: Electronics, Electrician and Fitter, which are recognised by NCVT (Central Government). It also has a computer institute, which enables the students to write the ‘O’, and ‘A’ level examinations conducted by the DOEACC Society, New Delhi. The Institute intends to begin an Automobile Service Station, Motor Mechanic, Computer Hardware, BCA, MCA and M. Sc IT.
