Don Bosco, Padivayal had been dreaming of it for years. At last the dream has came true when Don Bosco Youth Centre was inaugurated on December 6, 2009 at 4.pm. Following the maxim “the joy which you give to others is the joy that comes back to you,” the Salesian community of Padivayal sowed seeds of hope and joy in the minds of many young people and reaped a rich harvest of satisfaction. The inaugural meeting began on a very optimistic note with the overwhelming participation of over 60 youngsters. Fr. Shalbin, the director of the Youth centre, gave the welcome speech. Fr. Joyce, the Rector of the community, lighted the lamp and delivered the introductory talk. He exhorted the youngsters to explore the possibilities of the world and to say a resounding ‘yes’ to life. The members took the oath and Don Bosco Youth Centre was flagged off. The songs by the members and the dance by the Novices added color to the historical moment. Fr. Seby and the president of the Youth Centre expressed their wish for mutual solidarity and brotherly communion. Don Bosco’s example of giving totally for the young was resonating in Don Bosco Community.
Inauguration of the Youth Centre was hued with the football match between Novices and the youth centre senior team. The official match was refereed by Deacon Boby SDB who was the visiting guest of the day. The match went on as though to end in a tie, but the crucial goal shot in the second half by the youth centre led them to victory. After the match the opening of the youth center building was done by Fr. Seby and it was tinged with happiness and cheerfulness. Fr. Shalbin organized the whole programme with the help of the community and of course with the co-operation of the youngsters. The seed is sown and it is already sprouting and in due time it will grow up to be a tree in Don Bosco, Padivayal.
