The Government of Karnataka by its Notification No. WCD 255/2008 dated 06-05-2010 has nominated BOSCO to be represented by its Director as a member of the SELECTION COMMITTEE as per Rule 91 of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Rules 2007. The Term of the Committee is five years. The committee has seven members headed by a retired judge of the High Court. The other members are the Director of the Dept. of WCD (Govt. of Karnataka), Two representatives from NGOs to be nominated by BOSCO and SATHI, Two representatives from academic bodies, i.e., persons representing National Law School of India (University Bangalore) and National Institute for Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (Bangalore) and a member of the State/ National Commission for Human rights or Protection of Child Rights. As Executive Director, Fr Edward Thomas will be the representative of BOSCO in the Selection Committee. We congratulate Fr Edward for bringing BOSCO to this height of recognition by the Govt. of Karnataka.

The functions of the Selection Committee include preparing a panel of names from the public applications received by the State Govt. or the State Child Protection Unit to the membership of Child Welfare Committees and Juvenile Justice Boards in all the Districts of the State, recommending to the Govt. for appointment as members from persons who have applied to be members of CWC and JJB, and in the event of any complaint against a member of CWC or JJB, holding inquiry and recommending to the Govt. termination of appointment etc.. It will also prepare a panel of names to fill the vacancies as and when it may arise during the tenure of the Board or committee. The Selection Committee shall also recommend names for the constitution of State or District Level Inspection Committee as required by Section 35 of the Act.
