A day of thanksgiving was kept on 18th Dec.2009 at Lourdunagara Parish, on the occasion of the 150th Year Celebration of the foundation of Salesian Congregation. The concelebrated High Mass began at 6.30 pm. Fr. P.I. Thomas who was parish priest in this place for a period of thirteen years was the main celebrant. The presence of Frs. Mathew Vadakkel and Rayappa Lawrence who were the first parish priest and first Salesian priest from the parish respectively, added beauty and colour to the celebration. The novena in preparation for Christmas was integrated into the day’s special liturgy drawn up for the renewal of the vows. In his homily Fr. P.I. recalled the initial stages of the Congregation as well as that of Lordunagara parish and emphasized on the need to thank God and ask God for continued blessings. The representatives of the elders of the parish joined in lighting the lamp before the Mass. The entrance procession began from the old Church to the present one. In appreciation for all that the Salesians have done during the past 42 years in this place, especially for the socio-spiritual growth, the Salesians present on the occasion, six in all, were honoured by the parishioners, putting shawls on them. The Salesians renewed their vows during the Eucharist. After the Mass, snacks were distributed to all as a token of sharing, joy and fellowship.
