Kochi, Kerala Don Bosco Institute of Media, Animation, Graphics & Efx – Don Bosco IMAGE is launched on the birthday of Don Bosco, 16 August, 2010 at 9.30 a.m. The music and arts students of Don Bosco Cultural Centre escorted the chief guest Mar Sebastian Adayanthrath, the auxiliary bishop of Ernakulam-Angamaly with Kerala’s traditional Chendavadhyam and colourful band display to the newly established Media Centre – Don Bosco IMAGE. Mar Sebastian Adayanthrath blessed and invoked God’s blessing upon the newly built Media Centre and all the beneficiaries of it. The Director of Don Bosco IMAGE Rev. Fr. Jiji Kalavanal sdb introduced Don Bosco IMAGE while Rev. Fr. C K Jose sdb, Rector, Don Bosco Cultural Centre, Vennala welcomed the august gathering. The well furnished Preview Theatre was switched on by Mar Sebastian Adayanthrath and its ultra modern techniques and effects were exposed with a movie clipping. Rev. Fr Thomas Anchukandam sdb, Provincial, the Salesian Province of Bangalore delivered the keynote address and officially inaugurated Don Bosco IMAGE after which the lamp was lit. Mr. Sahadevan, senior editor of India Vision TV channel, felicitated on behalf of media persons. The inaugural ceremony was concluded with the expression of gratitude to God, Don Bosco, Fr. Rector Major and to one and all by Fr. Jiji Kalavanal sdb, Director, Don Bosco IMAGE. This new visual communications centre is the first Don Bosco Media Institute in the southern India state of Kerala popularly known as “God’s own country”. The other DB media institutions in the state are: DB IGACT for Graphic Arts Technology including Offset Printing, Graphic Design and Web Design and DB College for Masters in Communicative Journalism (MCJ) at Angadikadavu, Kannur. Training is offered in Audio & Video editing, Scriptwriting & Direction, Animation, Cinematography, Digital Photography etc. From 2011 the institute hopes to launch degree courses and a post graduation diploma in the above disciplines with possibility also for distance learning. The Preview Theatre offers world class film projection system as well as gallery style seating arrangements for 72 people. Besides offering students the best screening facilities, the institute offers budding film makers the opportunity to showcase their production for world premiere. DB IMAGE also has a Saturday Movie Club for serious movie goers. The state’s film production companies and channels are in seven kilometer radius of the new Don Bosco institute. The special feature of the institute is that each student will have his or her own laptop and class the room is fitted with wi-fi connections.
