At the request of Rev Fr Thomas Anchukandam, (Provincial), Most Rev Bernard Moras, (Archbishop of Bangalore) has found new pastors for St Joseph’s Parish (Sira). The Archbishop has entrusted it to Montfort Fathers. Very Rev Fr C. Francis (Finance Officer of the Archdiocese) presided over the ceremonies, conducted during the Eucharistic Celebration on August 30, 2009, in the presence of several priests including the Provincial of Montfort Fathers, the Vice-Provincial of the Salesians, the out-going Salesian Fathers (Fr Sebastian Muthuparakunnel and Fr Johnson Kothempilly) and the in-coming Montfort priests (Fr David Joseph and Fr Ravi), and Salesian confreres from Don Bosco, Tumkur (Fr Emmanuel – Rector, and Fr Thomas Myladoor). Rev Fr C. Francis as well as representatives of the parish community expressed deep appreciation and gratitude for the ministry carried out by Salesians during the seven years of their pastoral service at Sira. Pressing demands for Salesian apostolate in other areas left us little option but to request the Archdiocese of Bangalore to find others to look after the small parish community, spread over 25 K.M. in three centres. On August 29, Salesians hosted a lunch to thank the Dean of Tumkur, and the sisters of the FMM and SAB convents, situated in the parish, who had helped the Salesians in their pastoral responsibility. Salesians continue to serve three parish communities of the Archdiocese of Bangalore.
