Hospet is known for its iron mines. The people here are living to a great extent on mining. It has got its positive and negative aspects. The greatest curse of having this activity here is the phenomenon of child labour and the resulting illiteracy. The children here are the worst affected. They are compelled to spend their precious childhood in these mines and other hazardous situations doing hard work. They, unlike other children, have no chance to get education. They lose health too. So Don Bosco, Hospet brings them to the bridge school (residential school). After giving sufficient basic knowledge about discipline and education and instilling regularity in their lives we put them to the mainstream (regular school) attached to government or non-governmental hostels. We find this methodology very useful and helpful in their lives.
In order to bring these children together from various hostels and to get a feed back from them about their education and the present condition we conducted Two Day camp in Don Bosco, Hospet on 12th and 13th of April 2010. Fifty children attended this summer camp. During these days we found them alert and spontaneous in sharing, active in events like Yoga, Health and Hygiene, Talent enhancement, Building up of relationship, Memory test etc. While concluding, they expressed that such camps should be at least for a week and on a regular basis.
