The 11th Provincial Chapter of the Province of Bangalore took off at 09.00 a.m. on April 25, 2010 with a meaningful prayer service animated by Rev. Fr. Varghese Pallipuram, the Moderator of the Chapter. It was followed by the inauguration of the Chapter in the presence of several dignitaries representing the Salesian Family.
Fr. Thomas Koonan (Vice-Provincial) welcomed the gathering and Fr. Thomas Anchukandam (Provincial) declared the Chapter open. Fr. George Mathew (Provincial Economer) read out the message of Rev. Fr. Maria Arokiam Kanaka (Regional for South Asia). The message referred to the Chapter as being a privileged moment of grace for the province. Fr. Provincial in his inaugural address emphasized the three pillars of our ministry, namely, Expansion, Excellence and Inclusion. Rev Sr. Ivy Joseph (Provincial, MSMHC, Bangalore), Rev Sr. Caroline Pothanamala (Provincial, SMI, Bangalore), Sr. Marietta (Secretary, FMA Provincial, Bangalore), Mr. A.B. Bosco (Provincial Coordinator, Salesian Co-operators, Bangalore), and Mr. Joffie Jose (President, Don Bosco Past Pupils, Bangalore Province) addressed the gathering. The inauguration was followed by the presentation of the guidelines of the Chapter and the approval of the Working Document. The moderator then presented, by means of PowerPoint, a report of all the communities of the province, showing their scope, challenges and new initiatives. In the post lunch session, Fr. Provincial gave a detailed account of the state of the province. While mentioning the strengths of the province, he also pointed out the areas of immediate concern. Financial Report by the economer formed part of the status report.

The Chapter members were divided into 5 Commissions, each led by a Commission head. The Commissions are Implementation of GC 26 (Art. 1-17) headed by Fr. Vargheese Chakala, Implementation of GC 26 (Art. 18-44) headed by Fr. Kuriakose Puthenpurayil, Organic Provincial Plan headed by Fr. Alex Kalathikattil, Formation Directory/ Economic Directory headed by Fr. James Kadankavil and Province Matters headed by Fr. Jose Koyickal. The Commissions are to study and discuss their respective Working Documents and present it in the general assembly. The whole evening was spent on discussions in the various Commissions.

The following five days are days of intense reflection and dialogue for the 86 confreres (including provincial councilors, delegates, observers and secretaries) to review, renew and re-launch the Salesian charism, especially as enunciated by GC 26, in the context of the province of Bangalore.
