Thiruvonam, the day of the arrival of Mahabali, was celebrated at Don Bosco Youth Centre (Vaduthala) in a fitting manner. In the morning a solemn Eucharistic Celebration, presided over by Rev. Fr. Joffie Puthuva, was held at the Thattazham church.
At 09:00 AM there were village games organized in the youth centre ground. There were games like Uri adi, tug of war, cards, sack race, cycle slow race etc. It was well attended by both the young and the old alike.
In the evening at 04:30, Mr. Dhanapalan, the M P of Chalakudy Parliament constituency, flagged off the solemn procession from the Vaduthala bridge. The rally was led by Rev. Fr. Devassy Chirackel (Rector), Rev. Fr. Joffie Puthuva (Director, DBYC), Mr. Johnson Fernandez (General Secretary) and Mr. C J Antony (Joint General Secretary). In the rally there were the cultural items of Kerala like Ammukkudam, Theyyam, Thottam, Kathakali, Kalarippayatt, Sinkarimelam and fancy dress. The procession reached the Don Bosco ground around 06:30 PM where there were the performances of Sinkari Melam, Kalarippayatt & fancy dress. After that the results of the All Kerala Fancy Dress Competition was announced and prizes were given away by Rev. Fr. Rector.
It was followed by the Kalasandhya: cultural programmes organized by the youth centre. The programmes were inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Devassy Chirackel and witnessed by more than 3000 people. During the cultural eve there were Thiruvathirakali, mimix, cinematic dances, songs, acrobatic dances etc. The Thiruvonam day celebrations were over by 10:00pm.
