The second seminar, as part of the Celebration of the Year of Priests at the Province Level, was held at Don Bosco Provincial House, Bangalore, from 9.00 a.m. to 3.30 p.m., on September 27, 2009. More than 40 Salesian priest confreres attended the seminar.
In the first session, Fr Thomas Koonan presented the results of a sociological study of the prospects and challenges of priests. Fr Dominic Veliath, SDB, member of the International Theological Commission, handled the second session on “Towards an Understanding of the Catholic Priesthood.” Rev Fr Freddie D’Silva, SJ inspired the gathering by dwelling on “Solitude, Loneliness, Affectivity and Spirituality.” The participants gathered in the chapel, before lunch, to celebrate the Holy Eucharist presided over by Rev Fr Paul Puthanangady, SDB, and relived the experience of the disciples on the road to Emmaus. In a completely interactive session in the afternoon, the gathering explored ways and means of actualizing in the province the renewal process intended by the Holy Father by the declaration of the year of priests. The seminar powerfully brought home the need to discover the spiritual roots of the being and action of priests.
