Building Blocks of Documentation – a two–day Training Programme on Documentation was held at Don Bosco Provincial House, Bangalore on February 2-3, 2010. It was organized by Bosco Institute of Social Sciences (BISS), Bangalore, in collaboration with Catalyst Management Services (CMS), Bangalore. Twenty one different organizations participated in the Training Programme.

The training on Documentation was organized primarily to train Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to handle their documentation needs professionally. The sessions focused mostly on the writing skills of the participants enabling them to prepare standard documents such as Minutes of a meeting, Reporting Events, Case Studies, Process Reporting, Annual Reports, Executive Summaries, Tips on Writing, Formatting, etc. Miss Siddhi Mankad and Mrs. Bhagyalakshmi of CMS led the training sessions, which were well appreciated. The participating NGOs were all selected from organizations in child care and rehabilitation sector. In all, nine Don Bosco institutions, three Salesian Sisters’ institutions, and nine other organizations benefited from the training.

BISS is an institute of research, training, documentation and advocacy for the marginalized and young at-risk. It is set up to step up the advocacy needs of the development sector through documentation, knowledge management and dissemination. It identifies the different documentation requirements in the social sector and offers programmes for capacity building.

Earlier, the programme was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Mathew Valarkote, the Rector of the Provincial House, by lighting the lamp and delivering a well prepared address on the subject of Documentation. The entire two-day programme was given the necessary Salesian touch and style by the animating presence of Bro. Maria Gerald. Fr. Francis C.A., Director, BISS, who welcomed the whole gathering at the inaugural ceremony, also thanked all the participants and expressed his immense gratitude to the resource persons from CMS.
