BOSCO, Bangalore observed ‘World Day Against Child Labour’ at Bangalore City Railway Station, BMTC Bus Stand, Majestic, Gandhi Bazaar and M.G. Road areas and Orion, Gopalan, Mantri and Garuda Malls, on June 13, 2017. Fr. Mathew Thomas, the Executive Director, BOSCO, Bangalore, said that the most effective way to fight child labour is to ensure that every child is benefiting from mainstream schools and education system. At Basavangudi, Rajshekhar, the Child Welfare Officer and Sub Inspector, Basavanagudi Police Station, Bangalore, were present for the programme. The guests exhorted the people gathered to join hands in protecting children from child labour.
The program focused on the theme, ‘Stop Child Labour’. Children from BOSCO, Bangalore who are now studying in various mainstream schools, staff and volunteers reached out to strategic locations and vulnerable areas in the city and spread the word through performing a mime based on the theme of the day. At every location, general public were invited to pledge their support for the campaign by way of signing on a canvas with the slogan, ‘Stop Child Labour’. Twenty six children from BOSCO Bangalore participated in the awareness programme.
