A week and two days of summer camp for the Catholic youngsters of St. Theresa’s Church (Silk Factory) began on a happy note with the inaugural function at 10: 00 am on April 26, 2010 in the church auditorium. It was indeed a pioneering venture of the Salesian community of Mysore to reach the young catholic population of the vicinity, to give them various inputs and orientation with regard to values, leadership, personality development, friendship, study methods, good manners, the Bible and vocation guidance.
The community animated the youngsters with the help of Bro. Roshan D’Sa (Student of Theology- KJC) and Bros Arun and Vincent from the philosophate at Aluva. Though the number varied from time to time, the total strength came to 35. The camp did have a good and positive impact on the young people of the parish.
The youth of parish took active part in the event. The main focus was on the integral and holistic development of the young. An orientation to personal responsibility to form themselves as good Christians and responsible citizens was offered. This was coloured with lots of fun, game, outing to different parishes, singing, cultural activity, GK quiz and also stress on the knowledge of the Bible through quiz and so on.
The youngsters enjoyed the event, benefited much and requested the brothers to come back and conduct the camp again in next summer for a month.
The Yuva summer trill concluded in a meaningful manner with the Eucharist on May 5 celebrated by Fr. Joannes, the parish priest. During the valedictory function that followed Fr. Xavier (Rector, Don Bosco, Mysore) addressed the youth of the parish. The camp concluded with expressions of gratitude, prize distribution and a short cultural entertainment.
