‘Vishappinu Vida’ Celebrates Onam
A grand Onam celebration was organized by the ‘Vishappinu Vida’ project, which has been providing free mid-day meals and nursing care to more than 120 poor and helpless elderly parents in the coastal areas of Kollam for the past six years. A unique celebration was staged involving the beneficiaries and well-wishers of the project, and other youth and children. In the Onam celebration held at Muthakkara St. Peter’s Community Hall on Saturday morning, Kollam M.P, Shri. N. K. Premachandran offered his greetings. Onam celebrations were presided over by Rev. Fr. Stephen Mukattil (Rector, Don Bosco) and Mr. Jayachandran Ilankath (Malayala Manorama Special Correspondent & Bureau in Chief) inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp. Rev. Fr. Deto Fernandes (Vicar of Muthakkara Peter’s Church) delivered the keynote address. Mr. Fayaz (CI, Pallithottam), Mrs. Agnes John (Chairperson, FCDP), Fr. Jobi Sebastian (Director, FCDP), Mrs. Veronica Anthony (President, TMS), and Sr. Mary K. (Asst. Director, TMS) spoke during the event. The welcoming of Maveli and artistic performances by children and youth added colour to the Onam celebrations. More than 400 members participated in the delicious Onasadhya. The celebration ended with exciting competitions like tug-of-war, Uriyadi, Thalapanthukali, Onathallu and Kazhayetam.
