DB BEST Academy Celebrates 25 Batches of Empowered Youth
The DB BEST (Employment and Skill Training) Academy, a transformative initiative of Don Bosco BREADS, marked a significant milestone by celebrating the successful training of 25 batches, comprising 1,616 youth. The event, held in Lingarajapuram, Bengaluru, was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Hon. Minister for Energy and MLA of Sarvagnanagar, Shri K J George, who felicitated the graduates.
Among the dignitaries present were Extraordinary Visitor Fr. Fabio Attard, Fr. Jose Thomas Koyickal (Provincial), Fr. Shalbin Kalancherry (Vice Provincial), and corporate representative Mr. Sriranga Bhandarkar, Director and Global Head at Deutsche Bank. They joined hands with Fr. George PS, Executive Director of Don Bosco BREADS, and other partners to celebrate this momentous occasion.
Since its inception in 2016, DB BEST Academy has provided free, three-month skill training programs focusing on Hospitality Management, Retail Management, and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO). The Academy caters to school dropouts, economically disadvantaged youth, and migrants from rural areas, offering hands-on industry training, life skills, and personality development in a nurturing environment. Graduates benefit from placement assistance, enabling them to secure jobs and build sustainable futures.
In his address, Minister K J George emphasized the importance of skilling initiatives in India, stating, “Every person cannot be employed in white-collar jobs. Institutions like Don Bosco are performing a great service by uplifting disadvantaged youth and equipping them with essential skills. I am proud to see such impactful work happening in my constituency and the state of Karnataka.”
One of the program’s success stories, Job Francis, shared his journey from struggling at age 26 to becoming the Manager of a restobar. “The free course and placement support gave me a fresh start,” he said. “DB BEST became my home, and the people, my family.”
Fr. Fabio Attard, while appreciating the trainees, remarked on the global reputation of Don Bosco graduates. He recounted experiences with corporates like Schneider, who value the etiquette and positive spirit of Don Bosco-trained individuals.
A highlight of the event was the release of The BEST Story, an impact assessment report showcasing a 92.4% satisfaction rate among trainees and a consistent 79.2% employment rate. The Academy’s efforts have been pivotal in fostering financial independence and personal development for marginalized youth.
A documentary titled Winds of Hope was also unveiled, reflecting the Academy’s journey and impact over the years. The occasion provided an opportunity for past and present students to connect, share experiences, and continue their collective mission of empowerment.
With limited hostel facilities and plans for further expansion, DB BEST Academy remains committed to skilling and empowering more youth. The dignitaries unanimously praised the Academy’s professional approach and its significant contribution to socioeconomic upliftment.
