The program commenced with the watering of a sapling, symbolizing growth, resilience, and the nurturing role of women in society.

The event was graced by eminent personalities:

  • Mrs. Bharathi Vastrad, Senior Writer
  • Fr. Steven Lawrence, Director, Don Bosco Social Action Movement, Bidar
  • Mr. Mallikarjuna, Principal, Basaveshwara Education College (President of the event)

The program opened with a melodious welcome song performed by the students, followed by an introductory speech by Mrs. Veena Jaladi, setting the stage for an insightful and inspiring session.

Senior writer Mrs. Bharathi Vastrad, a proud alumna of Basaveshwara Education College, shared her journey, reminiscing about her student days. She recalled how, as a young woman, she was recognized for her courage to speak up and advocate for important causes.

She reflected on the first-ever International Women’s Day celebration in Bidar in 1975 and expressed pride in attending the 30th anniversary of the event in 2025. She paid tribute to Kittur Rani Chennamma, Rani Lakshmibai, and other historical women leaders who proved that women can compete and excel in all fields.

Challenging stereotypes, she dismissed the notion that “women are the enemies of women,” emphasizing that societal progress depends on women uplifting each other. She encouraged the audience to take advantage of government programs for women’s welfare and development.

She also spoke on prevalent social issues such as gender violence and family conflicts, urging society to move forward by fostering a culture of respect, equality, and mutual support. When she asked the audience, “Who is stronger, men or women?” the response was unanimous: “Women are strong!” She concluded with a powerful message: “Women should never step back from their dreams. They should stand strong and lead with confidence.”

Addressing the gathering, Fr. Steven Lawrence spoke about the multiple pressures faced by women in balancing family responsibilities, careers, and societal expectations. He emphasized the importance of mental health, self-care, and resilience in overcoming these challenges. His message encouraged young women to pursue their aspirations fearlessly while contributing to their families and communities.

In his presidential address, Mr. Mallikarjuna KanKatti applauded the progress women have made in various fields, including science, technology, and space exploration. However, he noted that many women still hesitate to step forward due to societal constraints. Encouraging them to break barriers and achieve their goals, he urged the students to embrace confidence and independence.

A large number of B.Ed students actively participated, engaging in discussions and activities that reinforced the theme of empowerment and mental well-being.

The celebration concluded on a high note, leaving the audience inspired and motivated to advocate for women’s rights, equality, and mental well-being. The event not only celebrated the achievements of women but also reinforced the importance of support systems, education, and collective progress in building a more inclusive society.
