Mukthi Theeram – Strengthening Collective Action Against Drug Abuse

Kollam: A joint review meeting of Mukthi Theeram Janakeeya Prathirodha Koottaima and the Narcotics Cell, Coast Guard, Pallithottam Police, and Excise Department was held on September 18 at the FCDP Hall to address the increasing use and sale of drugs in the coastal area. The meeting was presided over by Fr. Saji Elambasseril SDB, Director, FCDP. Mini Mary, TMS Coordinator, delivered the welcome address.

The meeting included a review of the activities carried out so far by Mukthi Theeram Janakeeya Prathirodha Koottaima against the sale and use of drugs, along with high-level discussions on its future activities and initiatives.

ACP Vijayshankar, Coast Guard SHO Rajan Babu, Pallithottam SHO Prathibha Nair, Excise Officer Prasannan Gopi, people’s representatives, Mr. A. J. D’Cruz, representative of the KCBC Anti-Alcohol Committee, members of the people’s collective, Kudumbashree members, Anganwadi teachers, parish representatives, and fishermen spoke at the meeting.

The members brought their concerns regarding the increasing use and sale of drugs in the coastal area to the attention of the officials. The officials emphasized that public support is essential for strengthening anti-drug activities.

The meeting highlighted the need to strengthen people’s participation and cooperation among various departments in anti-drug activities in the coastal area.
