Priyadarshini Bus Service Should Be Allowed in Coastal Areas: FCDP–TMS Memorandum

A memorandum was submitted to the Minister for Transport, Shri C. P. John, and Kollam MLA the honble Minister for Women and Child Development, Smt. Bindu Krishna. Under the leadership of the Fishermen Community Development Programme (FCDP) and Theeradesa Mahila Society (TMS), with the cooperation of various people’s organisations, seeking to address the transportation difficulties faced by the coastal areas of Kollam and to ensure safe and affordable transportation facilities for women, female students, and workers the memorandum was submitted .

The main demand in the memorandum was to introduce Priyadarshini bus services from the Kollam KSRTC Bus Stand to major coastal areas, including Thangassery, Thanni, and Eravipuram. FCDP Director Rev. Fr. Saji Elambasseril SDB met both ministers in person, held discussions with them, and submitted the memorandum.

Every day, many women and female students from the coastal areas travel to various places for education, employment, medical treatment, banking, and government services. In this context, the memorandum pointed out that introducing Priyadarshini bus services would provide significant relief to the people of the coastal areas.

The ministers expressed that such people-centred interventions undertaken by FCDP, TMS, and other organisations to bring the basic needs of coastal communities to the attention of the authorities and to seek solutions to them are commendable.
