The Institute of Philosophy at Don Bosco Seminary, Aluva, organised its annual debate competition on October 20, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. in the seminary auditorium. The theme for this year’s debate was “Trade Wars are the New Battlegrounds of Global Diplomacy: With Special Reference to the India-US Tariff Conflict and the Russia-China Factor.”
The event commenced with words of welcome and an inaugural message by Fr C.J. Sebastian, the Vice-Rector of Don Bosco Seminary, Aluva.
The panel of esteemed judges included Mr. Kurian Vithyathil, Dr. Jose Paul, & Dr. Fatima Austin, who graciously accepted the invitation to evaluate the participants.
The students were divided into two groups — one speaking for the motion and the other against it. After a keenly contested and intellectually stimulating exchange of ideas, the team supporting the motion was declared the winner, following the judges’ careful evaluation.
The debate featured a formal and dignified opening ceremony. The participants from both sides presented their arguments with confidence, clarity, and conviction, sustaining the competitive spirit until the very end. The judges expressed their appreciation for the high quality of the speeches and the depth of research demonstrated by the speakers.
The event concluded with a short address by Fr Dr Jose Palyayil SDB, the vice chancellor of Don Bosco University, Assam, who delivered an inspiring message and distributed the prizes to the winners. The Annual Debate 2025 thus proved to be an enriching academic experience that encouraged critical thinking, eloquence, and a healthy spirit of dialogue among the students.
