BREADS Bangalore Instils Knowledge of Human Rights on International Human Rights Day
In its mission to empower children and communities to understand and uphold human rights, the Bangalore Rural Educational and Development Society [BREADS] Bangalore, the Development Office of the Salesian Province of Bangalore, with teachers from Don Bosco schools of Karnataka conducted various activities and competitions on International Human Rights Day, December 10. The teachers representing Don Bosco English and Kannada Medium Schools in Chitradurga, Devadurga, Gulbarga, Prakashpalaya, and Mithra School in Bangalore took the lead in organizing poster-making, drawing, and elocution competitions, alongside awareness sessions and oath-taking ceremonies all designed to instill knowledge about human rights among students.
The United Nations’ theme for this year’s International Human Rights Day, “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now,” emphasizes the transformative power of human rights in creating a better world. It serves as a pathway to solutions for global challenges, fostering peace, equality, and sustainability.
As UN Secretary-General António Guterres stated, “Human rights are the foundation for peaceful, just, and inclusive societies.” The theme underscores the need to embrace human rights as a preventive and transformative force for good. By speaking up against hate speech, combating misinformation, and mobilizing action, we can reinvigorate the global movement for human rights. BREADS’ efforts to educate children about these principles ensure they are equipped to contribute to pave the way for a more just and equitable future.
