BREADS Launches ‘Sports for Change’ Initiative to Empower Kerala’s Youth Through Sports and Anti-Drug Campaign
On 3rd July, BREADS Bangalore organized a state-level meeting for its new venture ‘Sports for Change’ project an innovative initiative spanning seven locations across five districts in Kerala. This impactful program is rooted in an anti-drug campaign aimed at Kerala’s youth, using sports as a powerful alternative to substance abuse and antisocial behaviour. The meeting was graced by the Executive Director of BREADS, Fr. George P. S., who emphasized the transformative power of sports in cultivating discipline, focus, and positive lifestyle choices among young people. Fr. Jitto, Assistant Director of BREADS who emphasised on the need to move forward with the new venture with focus given on purpose. Fr. Josh, Director of the Sports Commission of the Salesian Province of Bangalore; and Fr. John, Youth services Director Kerala, along with directors, coaches, and community coordinators from all sports hubs, including the Advanced Sports Hub were also present for the meeting.
Sports have long been recognized not just as a physical activity but as a medium for holistic development fostering teamwork, leadership, resilience, and a sense of purpose. Through the Sports for Change initiative, we envision creating safe, engaging spaces for youth that naturally steer them away from harmful influences and towards constructive, goal-oriented lives. This initiative reflects BREADS’ commitment to empowering the younger generation through positive engagement, offering them not only a defence against addiction but also a gateway to personal growth and community contribution.
