CHITHRA Don Bosco – Women Empowerment: For Better Society

On 22nd March 2025, CHITHRA Don Bosco, Chitradurga, commemorated International Women’s Day under the theme “Women Empowerment: For a Better Society.” The event was held at CHITHRA Don Bosco and witnessed the participation of 850 women, along with distinguished guests.
The celebration commenced with a prayer song by Mrs. Bhagya, MINDS Counsellor of CHITHRA Don Bosco, Chitradurga. This was followed by the inaugural ceremony, where all dignitaries collectively lit the ceremonial lamp.
Dc. Anthonyraj, Director of CHITHRA Don Bosco, Chitradurga, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect and self-pride. He stated, a woman is an eye of the society, if you are a man, you must respect women; if you are a woman, you must take pride in being one.”
Mrs. Soubhagya Basavarajan, former President of Zilla Panchayat, Chitradurga, inaugurated the event and delivered an inspirational speech. She highlighted women shoulder numerous responsibilities but neglect their own health. She urged all women to prioritize their well-being and stated, “If you have strength, you must fight; if not, you must adapt.”

Rev. Fr. Uday, Vice Rector and Principal of Don Bosco English Medium School, Chitradurga, underscored the importance of education for women. He encouraged women to step forward in all spheres of life and raise their voices against injustices.

Ms. Spoorthy, an animal rescuer from Chitradurga, spoke about animal conservation and the importance of self-care for women. She said women to take time for themselves, nurture their talents, and actively contribute to society. Following her speech, she delivered a rocking music performance.
Two women from SHGs were recognized and honored for their achievements and contributions to society. Additionally, all guests were felicitated as a token of appreciation for their presence and support.

A vibrant cultural program followed, featuring performances by Manipuri students from Don Bosco Degree College. The event was enriched by a wishing song and master of ceremonies duties, handled by Mrs. Bhagya and Mrs. Theresa.

Rev. Fr. V M Mathew (Administrator, CHITHRA Don Bosco), Rev. Fr. K C Mathew (Principal, Don Bosco ICSE School), Rev. Fr. Benni Christudas (Principal, Don Bosco Degree College), Mrs. Chandrakala (Director, FAMCO Society, Chitradurga), Ms. Nidhishree (Karnataka State Level President, Bosco Youth Services) were the guests of the program.
Ms. Nidhishree delivered a warm welcome address. The grand celebration concluded with a delicious lunch.
