CISCE Kerala Region Chess Tournament at Don Bosco Central School, Angamaly
Don Bosco Central School, Angamaly had hosted CISCE Kerala region chess tournament. The Inter zonal level competition was inaugurated by the honorable Chairman of Angamaly Municipality, Mr. Mathew Thomas. The eminent dignitaries of the day were Rev. Fr. James Puthenparambil (Principal Don Bosco Central School, Angamaly), Rev. Fr. Joseph Elavanal (Rector & Manager), Rev. Fr. Jilson Erikattu (Vice Principal Don Bosco Central School, Angamaly), Mr. Rinson Parekattil (PTA President) and Mr. Jisto Paul (General Convener).
The program commenced with the welcome speech by Ms. Anjana A Nair followed by the inaugural speech by Mr. Mathew Thomas (Chairman of Angamaly Municipality). Mr. Rinson Parekkattil (PTA President) felicitated the occasion. The inaugural function was summed up with a ‘vote of thanks’ by Ms. Jubily Vinil.
The inter school Kerala regional chess tournament started at 10 am. 120 students from various ICSE & ISC schools (Kasaragodu to Thiruvananthapuram) had participated in it. The event was organized into six categories of boys and girls.
The competition lasted till evening. The following were the best performers of this competition.
1. Under 14 category boys : Jake Shanty, Nirmala Public School
2. Under 17 category boys : Aron S P, Christ Nagar H S S
3. Under 19 category boys : Thomas Joseph Binoy, Loyola, Thiruvananthapuram
1. Under 14 category girls : Ritu Parvathy Jeevan, Pallikkoodam
2. Under 17 category girls : Niranjana Rajesh, Holy Angels, Thiruvananthapuram
3. Under 19 category girls : Michel Shine, Don Bosco, Mannuthy
Zone winners among the boys’ categories were
1. Under 14 category boys : B Zone with 9 points
2. Under 17 category boys : A Zone with 8 points
3. Under 19 category boys : A Zone with 12 points
The best performers among the girls’ categories were
1. Under 14 category girls : Zone B with 10 points
2. Under 17 category girls : Zone A with 9 points
3. Under 19 category girls : Zone D with 9 points
The winners were awarded trophies, medals and certificates by Rev. Fr. Joseph Elavanal (Rector & Manager). The winners of this event will be representing at the national level chess championship.
