Day of Dignity and Care: Bablad Brick Kiln Workers Celebrated on Labour Day 2025

On May 8, 2025, the dusty expanse of Bablad’s brick kiln in Gulbarga transformed into a vibrant hub of compassion and celebration, as the Commission for Labour, Gulbarga Diocese, partnered with Don Bosco PYaR and Divine Nursing Institute, Gulbarga, to honor Labour Day with a life-changing two-hour medical camp. Nearly 70 brick kiln workers and their families, often overlooked in their tireless toil, were at the heart of this uplifting event, receiving vital health check-ups and a powerful reminder of their worth to society.

The morning began with a stirring address by Fr. Bapu, Vicar General of the Diocese of Gulbarga, whose words lit a spark of pride among the gathered workers. He praised their unwavering dedication, shaping the backbone of communities through their labor, and encouraged them to tap into government benefits available for their families. With heartfelt thanks to the NGOs amplifying their cause, Fr. Bapu’s speech wove a thread of unity, setting the stage for a day of care and connection.

At the core of the celebration was the medical camp, a beacon of hope for workers who endure harsh conditions with little access to healthcare. Led by the skilled hands of Dr. Srinivas and Dr. Venkatesh from Divine Nursing Institute, the medical team delivered comprehensive health screenings, from vital checks to personalized consultations. Medicines and tonics were thoughtfully provided to those in need, offering relief and reassurance. For many, this rare moment of care was a gift as valuable as the bricks they mold daily.

The event’s seamless execution owed much to its passionate organizers. Fr. Kuriakose, Director of Don Bosco PYaR, Sr. Cynthia, Labour Commission Secretary and Mr Kiran the Director of Divine Nursing Institute brought vision and vigor to the day. Supported by the dedicated staff of Don Bosco and the compassionate medical team, they created an atmosphere where every worker felt seen and valued. Their collaboration turned a routine worksite into a sanctuary of support.

As the Gulbarga sun climbed higher, the organizers kept everyone refreshed with chilled buttermilk, a simple yet heartfelt gesture that cooled bodies and warmed hearts. This small act of kindness mirrored the event’s broader mission: to uplift and empower through care.

More than a medical camp, this Labour Day celebration was a bold affirmation of the workers’ indispensable role in society. It blended health services with heartfelt recognition, leaving behind not just healthier bodies but also renewed spirits. The laughter, shared moments, and grateful glances among the workers and their families painted a picture of a community strengthened by solidarity.

The Bablad brick kiln’s Labour Day 2025 will be remembered as a radiant example of what compassion and collaboration can achieve. As the workers returned to their tasks, they carried more than medicines—they held a renewed sense of dignity and hope, fueled by a community that honors their sweat and sacrifice. Here’s to more days that celebrate and uplift those who build our world, one brick at a time!
