Dominic Savio Speaks to Gen Alpha: New Book Released in Goa

His Eminence Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão, President of the Conference of Catholic
Bishops of India (CCBI), released a new book titled Dominic Savio: A Faith Influencer for
All Time at the CCBI Centre in Goa on 9 June 2025.
Authored by Fr. Gilbert Choondal SDB, a consultant to the CCBI Catechetical Commission,
the book presents the life of St. Dominic Savio as if he were speaking directly to today’s
teens. Each chapter captures pivotal moments in Dominic’s brief but impactful life: his faith-
rooted upbringing, deep love for God, joyful pursuit of holiness, influence on peers and
adults alike, and his serene acceptance of death. Written in the first person, the book seeks to
offer faith and meaning to a generation shaped by AI and social media.
The launch took place in the presence of diocesan catechetical directors from across India. Fr.
Gilbert introduced the book prior to its official release. The book was released in the presence
of two Salesian catechetical directors of the dioceses, Fr. Dinesh SDB from Pune and Fr.
Nazarius Lakra SDB from Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh. The book includes a special prayer
card for expectant mothers, encouraging them to seek the intercession of St. Dominic Savio,
who is known as a powerful intercessor for them. It also recounts the miraculous healing of
his own mother.
Published by Don Bosco Vennala Publications, the 72-page book is priced at just ₹40 and is
ideal for Catholic students, parents, catechism classes, and as prizes for school events. Copies
