Don Bosco ITI KGF conducts Awareness Programme on Tobacco Use
An awareness programme on the harmful effects of tobacco use was organized at Don Bosco ITI, Kolar Gold Fields, on October 12, 2025, at 10.30 a.m. The session aimed to educate the trainees about the dangers of tobacco consumption and its impact on physical and mental health.
The resource persons for the day were Dr. Leena, Dr. Shalini SAB, and Dr. Roselina from the reputed St. John’s Medical College, Bengaluru, who are currently serving at St. Joseph’s Clinic, K.G.F., run by the Archdiocese of Bangalore.
In the context of the growing tendency among youth to fall into various addictive habits, the institution found it timely to hold this awareness session. The doctors highlighted the long-term ill effects of tobacco use through informative presentations, photos, and videos of individuals severely affected by tobacco-related diseases.
The trainees actively participated by asking questions on ways to overcome addiction. Arjun, one of the trainees, remarked, “The awareness programme made me understand that overuse of tobacco causes cancer.” Prakash, a second-year student of the Electrician trade, shared that he was convinced about the dangers of passive smoking and realized how peer pressure often leads to addiction.
As part of the health check-up, the doctors also monitored the blood pressure of all the trainees, emphasizing that many addictive substances directly affect the heart and circulatory system.
A special word of thanks was extended to Rev. Fr. Stephy Francis, the Principal, for efficiently organizing the event and ensuring its success.
The programme saw the active participation of around 45 trainees and 8 staff members, who benefited greatly from the informative and interactive session.
