My Health, My Power….
An awareness program on Physical and Mental Health of Women was organized for the women of the self-help groups at CHITHRA Don Bosco, Chitradurga, on 28th January 2025. The program began with a prayer song by Mrs. Theresa, Program Coordinator of CHITHRA Don Bosco, Chitradurga. Mr. Manjunath extended a warm welcome to everyone.
The program was inaugurated by lighting the lamp, with all the dignitaries participating in the ceremony. After the inauguration, Rev. Fr. Saji George, Rector of Don Bosco Institute, Chitradurga, addressed the gathering. He remarked that, in recent days, not only adults but also women and children are increasingly suffering from illnesses. He attributed this to modern lifestyles and poor dietary habits, emphasizing that if these are not addressed, the next generation will bear the consequences. He encouraged everyone to adopt the healthy lifestyle practices of previous generations.
Dr. Uma, an Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist from the District Health Department, was the resource person for the program. She spoke about the causes and solutions for menstrual problems, anemia, menopause, breast cancer, and uterine cancer. She stressed that even slight changes in the body’s health should prompt an immediate consultation with a doctor.
Shri Thippeswamy and Shri Venkatesh from the Tobacco Control Cell of the Health Department discussed the harmful effects of tobacco, alcohol, bidi, cigarettes, and drug addiction. They highlighted the damage caused by these substances, the impact on families, and provided appropriate solutions to address these issues.
Following this, Mrs. Theresa conducted a session on the mental health of women. She explained the objectives of the program and highlighted the importance of mental health for overall well-being. She discussed factors affecting women’s mental health, common mental health issues, mental health challenges across different life stages, the consequences of neglecting women’s mental health, and the role of support systems in promoting well-being.
