SIGHT Wayanad and HCL Foundation Inaugurate Community Basketball Court at Sulthan Bathery

In a major boost to community sports and youth development, SIGHT Wayanad, in collaboration with HCL Foundation, unveiled a state-of-the-art community basketball court at Don Bosco College, Sulthan Bathery on 24th January, 2026 as part of HCL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. The facility aims to promote physical fitness, teamwork, and healthy recreation among tribal youth and local residents in the region. The inauguration ceremony was graced by Mr. Sajith Chandran, Assistant Commissioner of the Excise Department, Wayanad, who cut the ribbon amid applause from a large gathering. Key dignitaries present included Mr. Prijoe Tharu, Associate General Manager of HCL Foundation; Mr. Anoop Varghese, Manager of HCL Foundation; Mr. Jiji KA, Secretary of Kerala Sports Council, Wayanad; Dr. Antony Thekkedath SDB, President of SIGHT Wayanad; Fr. Saju Antony, Treasurer of SIGHT Wayanad; and Dr. Shajan Noronha, Principal of Don Bosco College. Speaking at the event, Mr. Sajith Chandran commended the partnership, stating, “Initiatives like this basketball court will empower Wayanad’s youth, especially from tribal communities, by providing a platform for sports and skill-building. It’s a shining example of CSR driving real change.” Dr. Antony Thekkedath SDB, President of SIGHT Wayanad, added, “This court is more than a sports facility; it’s a hub for community bonding and holistic development. We thank HCL Foundation for their unwavering support in our mission to uplift marginalized groups through education and recreation.”

The ceremony culminated in a thrilling grand opening match between students from Kerala Varma College, Thrissur, and Hoopers from Thrissur, showcasing high-energy plays and drawing cheers from spectators. The basketball court, designed for all-weather use, aligns with SIGHT Wayanad’s ongoing efforts in community welfare, education scholarships, and awareness campaigns.
