The Salesians were invited to Sultan Bathery, by the diocese of Kottayam for the purpose of establishing a technical school. At first, the institute launched five trades namely; Computer, Motor Mechanics, Electricals, Electronics and Welding. From 2001, the institute was recognised as an Off-Campus Centre of Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam resulting in the beginning of new streams like BCA, MCA, MSc. IT, MBA etc. Apart from the technical and professional education, the Salesian Community also functions as a Quasi-parish with the daily celebration of the Eucharist and other liturgical services. The house also reaches out to the neighbourhood through the tuition centres. A vibrant youth centre is also part of the community.
