Teachers Trained in Salesian Pedagogy at Don Bosco School, Tumakuru

Don Bosco School, Tumakuru, Karnataka, organised a one-day intensive training programme on Salesian Pedagogy for its teaching staff on May 20, bringing together 40 educators for a reflective and practical learning experience centred on Saint John Bosco’s educational vision.

The workshop, titled “Educating with the Heart of Don Bosco: A Journey into Salesian Pedagogy,” aimed to deepen teachers’ understanding of the Salesian approach to education while equipping them with practical methods to apply its principles in contemporary classrooms.

Fr. Jins John Padappallil, Principal of Don Bosco School, welcomed the participants and introduced the resource person, Fr. John Parankimalil (P.D. Johny), Secretary of the Salesian Provincial Conference of South Asia (SPCSA) and Secretary of the All India Don Bosco Education Society (AIDBES).

The first session focused on rediscovering the life, mission, and educational philosophy of Don Bosco, with special emphasis on his Preventive System founded on the pillars of Reason, Religion, and Loving Kindness. Through interactive discussions, reflections, and presentations, participants explored the continued relevance of Salesian pedagogy in today’s educational context.

The second half of the training concentrated on translating Salesian values into practical classroom strategies and institutional culture. Teachers participated in group discussions, case studies, and strategy-building exercises that highlighted accompaniment, meaningful presence, and the holistic development of young people.

The workshop also emphasised character formation and spiritual growth alongside academic excellence. Real-life examples, storytelling, and experiential learning methods helped participants internalise the essence of Salesian education as a mission rooted in compassion, faith, and dedication to youth.

The programme concluded with participants renewing their commitment to becoming not only instructors but also mentors and companions to the young, reaffirming the Salesian vision of education as a way of life centred on the integral development of every student
