Unarvu 2022: DBYC Thope organises Mini Marathon to Spread Awareness about Illegal Drug Trafficking
The daily newspapers are filled with disturbing cases of drug abuse and drug rackets which have escalated in alarming proportions in recent years. There is a need for creative interventions to draw the attention of the public to this danger which can destroy the very fabric of our society. Don Bosco Youth Centre, Thope, keen to be partakers in this fight against this evil, organised a mini marathon titled Unarvu 2022 with the theme, Dream Beyond Drugs, on August 26, 2022.
The event was organised in collaboration with Pallithottam Police Station and Dream, an NGO working to create awareness about drug abuse among youngsters.
In the inaugural meeting, the Chief Guest, Mr. Fayaz, Circle Inspector of Pallithottam Police Station, shared about the underlying dynamics of drug exchange and the rising drug crimes in society. Fr. Stephen Mukkattil, the Parish Priest, congratulated the Centre for this much-needed initiative, which would spread awareness about illegal drug trafficking. Fr. Jerin, the Director, drew the attention of the audience to the rising cases, especially among youth which has become a regular feature in the newspapers. Ms. Anupriya, the Counsellor of Dream Project, Sr. Annie FMA, the Animator of the Centre, and Mr. Sajayan, PRO of Pallithottam Police Station, also graced the occasion.
The CI flagged off the marathon. Around 25 youngsters participated. It was a pleasant sight to see youngsters running to spread awareness against the menace of drugs which has spoiled the lives of many young people. Mr. Harikumar won the first prize, Mr. Savio, a member of the Centre, won the second prize, and Mr. Binulal won the third prize. The prizes and cash awards were distributed by the Director.
