The Bishop of Bellary in 1995 offered the Salesians the taluks of Devadurga in Raichur district and Yadgiri in the Gulbarga district in Northern Karnataka to initiate developmental works.

Fr. Thomas Myladoor, the then Provincial along with the Vice-Provincial visited Yadgir and the urgency was felt to start a centre in the region. The Bishop of Bellary handed over the Yadgir taluk to the Salesians through a letter dated August 27, 1996. It was given to the Salesians as quasi-parish with a small Catholic community.

The province purchased 9 acres of land in August 2000, for the furthering of the apostolate. A small chapel-cum-residence was blessed in August 2002.

The centre has obtained a No-Objection Certificate from the Government of Karnataka to establish in Yadgir, the Don Bosco College of Education offering B.Ed and D.Ed course with an intake of 100 and 45 students per year respectively. The centre launched the courses in 2004-2005. At present only B.ed courses are offered. An English medium school was also started to provide the people with quality education. Due to a lack of good P U Colleges, many students either moved over to Gulbarga or Raichur to pursue their studies. Therefore a P U College was begun to address this problem.

Don Bosco Yadgiri through the social work centre is actively involved in social welfare programmes. The promotion of Child Rights, care and protection of the Young at Risk, Organisation and empowerment of women sanghas, child rights advocacy and awareness etc., is being carried out in 40 villages of Yadgiri district.
