Youth Parliament 2026 at Don Bosco Degree College, Yadgir
Don Bosco Degree College, Yadgir, had the distinct privilege of co-hosting the Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament 2026 (VBYP) on March 2, 2026. This prestigious event is an initiative of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), Government of India, and is closely aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 and the MY Bharat platform.
As part of a nationwide movement held across all districts in India, Don Bosco Degree College served as the official host for the Yadgir district level. The event saw a robust response, with over 300 youth aged 18–25 registering via the official portal, of which 51 finalists actively participated in the deliberations.
Theme and Format
The central government assigned a poignant and critical topic for discussion: “50 Years of Emergency: Lessons for Indian Democracy.” Participants were allotted three minutes to articulate their views in Kannada, Hindi, or English. In accordance with the explicit directives of the Central Ministry, elaborate preparations were undertaken to ensure the event met national standards.
Core Objectives
The Youth Parliament was designed to achieve the following:
- Amplify Youth Voices: To provide a platform for those aged 18–25 to deliberate at district, state, and national levels.
- Public Engagement: To encourage youth to engage with public issues, understand the common man’s perspective, and express articulate opinions.
- Skill Development: To enhance decision-making abilities and foster respect and tolerance for diverse viewpoints.
- Civic Discipline: To instill an understanding that adhering to rules is essential for systematic and effective discussion.
- Policy Contribution: To document youth opinions on the vision of Viksit Bharat and make these views available to policymakers and implementers.
Distinguished Guests and Jury
The event was graced by distinguished personalities from various sectors. Sri Mariyappa, Senior Civil Judge and Member Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), inaugurated the session. Sri Mayurkumar, District Youth Officer (DYO), attended as the Guest of Honour and shared valuable insights with the participants. The valedictory function was presided over by Sri Pandithrao Pawar, DDPU Yadgir, who served as the Chief Guest for the closing ceremony. Fr Saji George, Director of Don Bosco Institutions, chaired the proceedings, while Fr (Dr) Thomas KO, Principal of the college, delivered the welcome address.
Participants provided a profound historical analysis while clearly articulating the implications for both the present and the future.
All the participants were awarded certificates of participation in recognition of their efforts while five exceptional participants were selected to advance to the State Level.
All participants were provided with refreshments, ensuring a well-supported environment for this day of intellectual exchange and nation-building.
