The Salesian presence in Hassan was initiated by the invitation of the Bishop of Chikmagalur with the offering of land adjacent to the parish Church of Hassan for 99 years. A technical school was started with the view of providing quality skill training to the youth from the poorer sections of the society.

Don Bosco Technical Institute, recognised by the government offers Formal, Non-Formal and Certificate Courses (Automobile mechanism, Welding and Fabrication, Electrician, Electronics, Computer, Turner and Fitter ) with boarding facilities for students from distant places. The community also provides career guidance and orientation programmes for the youth.
