The Salesians were invited by Bishop Mar Sebastian Mankunzhikary, the Bishop of the then newly erected Diocese of Thamarassery to start our apostolate, especially for the neglected and educationally backward Catholic youth of the diocese. A technical school at Mampetta was considered as a viable option for educating the youth. On 15th December 1989, 12.77 acres of land and another plot of 15 cents with a small house were procured. The little house was repaired and Salesians resided there from May 1990. the construction of proposed facility was begun with the support of Comide. The foundation stone for the new Institute was blessed by Dr.Sebastian Manunchikary and Fr. Thomas Myladoor the then provincial of Bangalore laid the foundation stone on January 31st, 1993. The building was completed after five years and it was officially blessed by Bishop Paul Chitilappilly, the then Bishop of Thamarassery and inaugurated by Fr.Mathew Maruvathrail, the then Provincial of Bangalore on 8th September 1998.
Initially, due to lack of proper infrastructure as well as the construction of hte same, the apostolate was mostly concentrated on developing Youth Centre . The local youth frequented the centre mainly for recreational activities.
By the year 1995 a technical school was established with the necessary infrastructural arrangements and equipment Don Bosco Mampetta began as a centre for vocational training. Computer education was imparted through short-term courses, Diploma courses and Post Graduate Diploma courses. Many who got trained in short term and long term courses found employment within and outside the state, even abroad.
. In addition to the above mentioned courses Computer, Electrical, Electronic, Fitter and related training were the main technical and engineering sections of the institute. The Institute is also an affiliated centre of NCVT Government of India for Fitter, Electrical and Electronic Mechanic. The ITI training began in 1998. Later in 2004 Plus One and Plus Two courses were initiated in the private scheme in three streams viz., Humanities, Commerce and Computer Commerce. Due to the steady reduction in the number of students the Junior College section was closed in 2015.
In 2008 various Distance Education degree courses were offered in the premises. Coaching classes and regular classes for Distant Education Courses of outside universities like Annamalai University, Madras University and Assam Don Bosco University were tried out mainly for BCA.
In 2012 various DB Tech courses started at Don Bosco Mampetta. There was also a collaborative endeavour with Taj group of hotels for Hospitality Management.
In July 2013 Don Bosco College which is affiliated to the University of Calicut came into existence with four Degree Courses viz., B.Com, BBA, BCA and BA English. The College was officially inaugurated by Dr Abdul Salam, the Vice Chancellor of the University .
In January 2015 the existing ITI was shifted to the new building. DDUGKY courses under DB Tech also began in the same year. Yamaha Training School(YTS) started imparting training in July 2015. A one year course ‘Yamaha Two Wheeler Mechanic Course’ is conducted in YTS. More facilities are now appended to the college by shifting the Vocation Courses to the newly constructed ITI Complex. The institute has better prospects to initiate more Degree and Post Graduate Courses.
