A Medical Camp That Knows the Pulse of the Parish

St. Maximilian Kolbe Church is hosting a free 15-day nerve therapy camp, and residents of Mangalam are already experiencing positive results.

Since June 19, the Don Bosco Centre near St. Maximilian Kolbe Church in Mangalam has welcomed individuals seeking free medical relief each morning.

For fifteen days, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., parish residents and those from nearby neighborhoods receive pulse therapy sessions. This treatment uses low-frequency electrical impulses to calm and stimulate the nervous system. Each session lasts thirty minutes, and approximately 128 people attend daily.

“I did not expect anything so soon,” said one woman in her late fifties, who sought relief from diabetes and joint pain. “But I am walking better.” She is among several regular attendees who have reported improvements.

Mr. Jose Chellappan, Vice Chairperson of the local Municipal Council, inaugurated the camp at a ceremony led by Fr. Jibi Parekulam, Rector and Vicar of St. Maximilian Kolbe Church. Team Coinioc Alappuzha, a community health group, provided the expertise and equipment to support the program.

The Mangalam Social Service Committee and Don Bosco Alappuzha jointly organize the initiative. Don Bosco’s efforts focus on two main areas: pastoral outreach to approximately 700 families in the region and structured social development through the Integrated Development Society (IDS).

IDS represents Don Bosco Alappuzha’s commitment to broader community engagement. It runs programs in livelihood support, women’s empowerment, health, and economic inclusion for the fishing communities of Alappuzha, whose lives are shaped by the sea and its unpredictable rhythms.

Attendance has grown beyond the parish, with participants now coming from neighboring communities. The camp continues through early July. For many, the thirty-minute session is now the most anticipated part of their day.

By 8:45 a.m., before the doors open, the queue has already begun to form.
