Don Bosco College, KR Puram, Bengaluru, officially launched SPARK – Centre for Social Action on 2 November 2026, as part of the 71st Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations. The initiative reflects the institution’s commitment to the Salesian educational vision of forming “Good Christians and Upright Citizens.”

SPARK stands for Students Promoting Awareness, Responsibility & Kindness, with the inspiring motto, “Awaken Hearts. Inspire Minds. Transform Lives.” The centre aims to nurture social responsibility among young people and empower them to become compassionate and active contributors to society.

Through various community outreach initiatives, SPARK will focus on education, environmental stewardship, housing assistance, support for vulnerable groups, and activities that promote human dignity and inclusive development.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by chief guests Mr. Rajesh Dhruva, actor, writer and director, and Mr. Spencer Mathew, film director, producer and screenwriter. The programme was attended by Rev. Dr. Wilson K. D., Director of the College; Rev. Dr. Geo Kalladanthiyil, Principal; Rev. Dr. George P. S., Director of BISS and Animator of SPARK; Rev. Fr. Santhosh Stephen, Administrator; and Mr. Vinodh, Vice Principal.

The celebration began with the release of a white pigeon, symbolising peace, hope and goodwill. A significant highlight of the programme was the induction of 40 student volunteers and five faculty members, who took a solemn oath to dedicate themselves to serving those in need. Wearing white caps bearing the SPARK logo and holding lighted lamps, the volunteers pledged their commitment to social responsibility and community service.

Rev. Dr. George P. S. presented an overview of the centre’s vision, objectives and upcoming action plans. The programme also featured the official unveiling of the SPARK logo by the distinguished guests, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the college’s social engagement initiatives.

Established in the academic year 2022–23 as the first Salesian college in Bengaluru, Don Bosco College has consistently worked towards extending the holistic Don Bosco approach to education, particularly to young people from rural and marginalised backgrounds.

Speaking about the initiative, Fr. George remarked, “For a Salesian institution, SPARK is a movement of young hearts for social change.”

With the launch of SPARK, Don Bosco College reaffirms its commitment to going beyond classroom education by inspiring young people to develop empathy, embrace responsibility and actively contribute to transforming their communities.

Awaken Hearts. Inspire Minds. Transform Lives.
