Kristu Jyoti College Hosts Patriotic Dance & Song Fest with 400 Children from Social Service Guild Centres

The campus of Kristu Jyoti College came alive on August 17, 2025, as joyful voices and vibrant rhythms echoed through the air. Nearly 400 children from nine centres of the Social Service Guild (SSG) gathered for the much-awaited Patriotic Dance and Song Competition, a tradition that celebrates talent, culture, and the spirit of our nation’s independence.

Nine spirited teams representing several urban slum areas around the college set the stage ablaze with their dances and songs—each performance a heartfelt tribute as India marked its 79th year of independence. Beyond the competition, the true purpose of the day was to nurture unity, patriotism, and a sense of belonging among the children while giving them a stage to showcase their God-given gifts.

The programme began in the presence of esteemed guests. Rev. Fr. Pallipuram Varghese, sdb, Rector of BOSCO, delivered an inspiring message, reminding everyone that the deepest expression of patriotism begins with being good human beings. His words struck a chord with the young performers and the audience alike. Joining him as guests of honour were Rev, Fr. Jerin Peter sdb, Mrs. Divya Alex (Salesian Cooperator), and Vincent and Jennifer from John the Evangelist Church, Bangalore, all of whom added grace and encouragement to the occasion.

Much credit goes to the first-year theology students, who, together with the project coordinator, teachers, volunteers, novices and candidates from SAB, SAC and UMI worked tirelessly to ensure every detail was looked after. From welcoming the groups to making sure the stage and arrangements were flawless; their enthusiasm made the event truly memorable. Br. Dr. Anthony Swamy SG, the Principal of Lake Montfort School, provided their school buses to ferry the children from their centres to KJC and back.

The performances themselves were nothing short of spectacular. Each team brought to life a different shade of Indian culture through graceful movements and patriotic rhythm. The stage—designed with a striking backdrop depicting India’s cultural richness—amplified the beauty of their performances. The audience cheered with applause, their pride swelling with every song and dance.

The highlight, of course, was the announcement of winners.

Halehalli – Second Place

Priyankanagar – Third Place

  • Singing Competition:

Every clap, smile, and medal told the same story—that these children are brimming with talent and potential.

The event concluded not only with winners but with a collective sense of joy and unity. It was more than a competition; it was a celebration of culture, patriotism, and community spirit.

The Social Service Guild takes pride in having hosted this enriching day and looks forward to many more such initiatives—events that not only bring joy but also mould young hearts to grow in confidence, talent, and love for their nation.
