Inauguration of the Social Service Guild Learning and Activity Centre in Jyoti Nagara

In line with the renovation of the Social Service Guild (SSG) Learning and Activity Centres at Anandapura, Halehalli and Priyankanagar for underprivileged children, yet another centre was officially inaugurated at Jyoti Nagara, Bengaluru, in a warm and graceful ceremony that brought together children, local residents, and members of the Salesian community.

The event was graced by Fr. Bosco Ponthokkan, Rector of Kristu Jyothi College, who served as the chief guest, along with five other Salesian priests and brothers. Several children, parents and local residents also joined the gathering, making the occasion both meaningful and community-oriented.

The ceremony began with a welcome address by Fr. Sunil Jose, Secretary of the Social Service Guild, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the benefactors and well-wishers who have supported the mission. He especially acknowledged the assistance of Mr. Anand, representing Shishu Mandir, whose organization extended significant financial and moral support. Fr. Sunil also thanked the Kristu Jyothi College community, along with past and present teachers, brothers, and the local residents, for their continued encouragement and collaboration.

Following his words, Fr. Bosco blessed the new centre and ceremoniously cut the ribbon, officially opening the facility. Afterwards, guests and children toured the newly renovated premises, which stood as a symbol of both the Guild’s long-standing work and the community’s enduring partnership.

As the evening drew to a close, light refreshments were distributed, with special care given to ensure the children enjoyed the celebration. They were encouraged to make the most of the study centre and to invite their friends to join and benefit from its resources.

The Jyoti Nagara SSG Centre has been serving children for over 27 years, providing 2 to 2.5 hours of dedicated assisted study time on weekdays, while Saturdays exclusively reserved for games, life skill, personality and recreational activities. Through the years, the centre has benefitted from occasional CSR contributions by companies that provide snacks and other support. Its lasting impact is best reflected through the people it has touched—one teacher continues to serve faithfully even after 27 years, while another staff member is herself a proud alumna of the centre.

The inauguration of the newly renovated Learning and Activity Centre is a continuation of this legacy—a testimony to the power of education, community, and compassion working hand in hand for the betterment of young lives.
