FCDP Presents Coastal Development and Social Welfare Proposals to include in the forthcoming Kerala State Budget.
As part of the pre-budget consultation process aimed at strengthening the state’s development vision, various development proposals prepared by the Fishermen Community Development Programme (FCDP) were submitted to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Kerala, Mr. V.D. Satheesan, on 12 June 2026. The proposals were presented by Fr. Saji Elampasseril SDB, Director of the Fishermen Community Development & Thiradesa Mahila Society (FCDP-TMS).
A comprehensive policy document containing recommendations and policy suggestions put forward during the Kadal Conclave was handed over to the Chief Minister. The conclave brought together experts from various sectors, representatives of fishing communities, and social activists to discuss the challenges and developmental needs of coastal communities and fishermen. The Anganajyothi project, aimed at enhancing the quality and capacity of Anganwadi teachers across the state, and Mukthi Theeram, a model people’s movement for sustainable anti-drug action in collaboration with government agencies, were also discussed in detail.
The Chief Minister assured that the Government’s anti-drug initiative, “Toofan – The Narcotic Hunt,”would be expanded as a mass campaign with the active participation of voluntary organizations. He further assured that strong action would be taken against drug mafias and that the developmental needs of coastal communities and the fishing population would receive special attention from the Government.
Those present at the discussion included Mr. Rathan U. Kelkar, Secretary to the Chief Minister’s Office, Fr. Saji Elampasseril SDB, and Mr. Patrick Michael, Secretary of KRLCC and State Vice President of KLCA.
